Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dean of Students to join our team at New Orleans College Prep. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the administration and tracking of student conduct and discipline data, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment, and facilitating parent education and involvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the consistent and fair administration and tracking of student conduct and discipline data.
  • Contribute to a safe environment for learning by ensuring student conduct is maintained and discipline is enforced fairly and consistently.
  • Serve as liaison to parents and facilitate parent education and involvement.
  • Coach teachers on classroom/behavior management techniques.
  • Assist in making formal reports to the board of trustees and charter entity on student conduct, school safety, and related matters.
  • Implement and follow policies and procedures for student dress code, discipline, and other policies related to maintaining a positive school culture of learning and achievement.
  • Facilitate faculty and staff development related to school culture and consistent enforcement of student discipline.
  • Organize school events, including open houses and parent conferences.
  • Facilitate parent education and involvement, including reinforcing the need for parents to support the school's policies and practices for student discipline, dress code, homework, and events.
  • Undertake administrative and instructional duties as the principal may assign.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.
Requirements
  • BA/BS degree or graduate degree.
  • Administrative certification is welcomed but not mandatory.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in working with children in a teaching, counseling, or other applicable capacity.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
  • Exhibited leadership in working with professional staff, students, and the community.
  • Agreement with the academic goals and philosophy of the charter school.
  • Commitment to accountability, including a rigorous student testing regime.
  • Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Possess the ability to fulfill all office activities normally expected in an office setting.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • May require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
Work Environment
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide or out-of-state travel.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Internal office space within a school environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various computer programs, including Google Suite Software.
  • Skills in finding ways to solve problems and improve systems.
  • Skills in learning quickly, demonstrating an ability to quickly and proficiently absorb new information.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to possess a strong willingness to work hard and long hours to get the job done.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with other professionals in a team setting.
  • Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize materials in a logical and compelling manner.
  • Ability to follow directions and work unsupervised on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
