Role Overview: We are seeking a qualified Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to fulfill key responsibilities in our cybersecurity operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage system security to ensure that independent systems and networks are operated and maintained in compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Support the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) in delivering security training to users, operators, and managers, ensuring they receive appropriate awareness training and refresher courses as needed.
- Oversee Automated Information System (AIS) activities to ensure adherence to established security protocols.
- Develop and review operational instructions for security procedures related to computer systems.
- Conduct risk assessments on systems and networks in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and other relevant regulations.
- Respond to AIS incidents, performing initial evaluations, initiating corrective actions, and reporting findings to the ISSM.
- Design, install, maintain, and administer AIS systems and network equipment to support operational requirements.
- Conduct security and vulnerability assessments, implementing necessary patches and upgrades to in-house networks.
- Assist the ISSM in maintaining Assessment and Authorization documentation, including but not limited to Information Assurance Standard Operating Procedures (IA SOP), System Security Plans (SSP), and Risk Assessment Reports (RAR).
Required Qualifications:
- Possession of a minimum Secret clearance with an in-scope background investigation.
- A Bachelor’s Degree coupled with at least two years of experience in information systems, security, or information assurance; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with various information system security assessment and hardening tools such as SCAP Compliance Checker, STIG Viewer, ACAS, Nessus, and others.
- Compliance with DoD 8570.1M standards and possession of a professional certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, GSEC).
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required by operational demands.
- Demonstrated independence, proactivity, and professionalism.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and computer proficiency.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of EMASS.
- Experience with Windows Server, Windows 10, and RHEL, with certifications such as MCSA, RHSCA, or Linux+ being advantageous.
Location: This position is based in the United States and requires U.S. citizenship. The ability to obtain a security clearance is essential.
