Job Title: Energy Economist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Energy Economist to support clients on a range of energy and climate policy issues. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of energy sector planning and operations, as well as experience with utility regulatory filings and project management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support technical studies that evaluate energy impacts and benefits
  • Prepare, review, update, and present technical reports
  • Provide project support, including technical assistance, data analysis, and quality control of work products and client deliverables
  • Perform quantitative problem-solving, data collection, and analysis, and manage large datasets
  • Write reports for technical and general audiences
  • Review literature, conduct research, and synthesize findings into concise summaries
  • Interact with clients and prepare presentations, reports, memoranda, and other communication materials
  • Translate technical topics into meaningful terms for general audiences
  • Work with small teams to prepare high-quality products and pitch in wherever necessary
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the electricity, natural gas industries
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in economics, public policy, or a related field
Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in economics, public policy, or a related field
  • Combination of engineering and economics degrees
  • Experience with project management, business development, and/or client development
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies/regulation affecting the energy sector
  • Experience with advanced programming and data analytic skills
  • In-depth understanding of energy commodity markets, utility regulation, and economic valuation
  • Understanding of power and natural gas utility sector planning methods
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies impacting the power and natural gas sectors
  • Understanding of energy demand drivers
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical material to a lay audience
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines
