Job Summary

Michigan State University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian I to join our dynamic Custodial team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing cleaning and maintenance activities that support the university's mission of advancing knowledge and transforming lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance activities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and machinery, including vacuum cleaners, mops, and brooms.
  • Restock and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Work collaboratively with other custodial staff to achieve team goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • One year of experience in commercial or institutional cleaning methods, techniques, and equipment.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires regular, in-person attendance. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 4:30 pm to 1:00 am, with occasional after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
