Compensation:
Financial Records Specialist I, SR-06: $2,890.00 per month
Financial Records Specialist II, SR-08: $3,006.00 per month
Key Responsibilities:
1. Validate and input details of expenses, charges, or similar bookkeeping entries to ensure accurate account classification.
2. Manage cash collections of various types, including receipt issuance and deposit processing, while maintaining precise records; consult relevant manuals or resources to obtain necessary information.
3. Conduct various calculations such as discounts, interest rates, ratios, and percentages; ascertain rates, costs, and amounts for diverse items using classification data.
4. Clarify service details, methods, or policies; prepare requisitions or purchase orders, and may place orders for supplies, materials, or services; process invoices and prepare vouchers for approval to authorize payments.
5. Potentially oversee inventory control records.
6. Review the clerical work of peers, identifying incorrect procedures or entries and providing corrective guidance.
7. Draft correspondence requiring specific knowledge of methods, procedures, and policies; determine affected general ledger accounts and prepare necessary posting documents reflecting debit and credit entries.
8. Summarize transactions and prepare control sheets or other documents to ensure accurate financial reporting.
9. Conduct periodic totals of entries and perform trial balances of debits and credits; identify necessary corrective entries to maintain account balance; close and reconcile accounts.
10. May supervise one or more junior account clerks or other support staff.
Experience Requirements:
Applicants must possess relevant work experience as outlined below:
- Class Title: Financial Records Specialist I
General Experience: 1 year
Specialized Experience: 0.5 years - Class Title: Financial Records Specialist II
General Experience: 1 year
Specialized Experience: 1.5 years
General Experience: Work experience demonstrating knowledge of basic arithmetic and spelling, along with the ability to follow directions, write clearly, and accurately observe differences in words and numbers.
Specialized Experience: Involves posting to accounting records and organizing fiscal information; experience must demonstrate knowledge of standard accounting classifications and office practices related to transaction processing.
Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience in roles such as inventory clerk or stock clerk, which primarily involve non-fiscal data management, is not considered qualifying specialized experience.
Education Substitutions:
1. High school graduation with courses in basic English and arithmetic may substitute for six months of general experience.
2. Completion of a full-time accounting curriculum leading to a degree or diploma may substitute for specialized experience on a one-to-one basis, up to a maximum of two years.
3. Completion of one year of a full-time accounting program may substitute for one year of specialized experience.
4. Education in a baccalaureate program may substitute for specialized experience under specific conditions.
Salary Information:
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and may include differentials, if applicable.
