Shipfitter Journeyman

Job Summary

This is a 2nd shift position in production ship fitting operations aboard ship vessels and fabrication shop. The successful candidate will be responsible for fitting and fabricating structural parts, deck plates, bulkheads, and foundations using various welding processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Rip/outs by oxy-fuel torch cutting, plasma cutting, and cold cutting
• Fabrication and installation of components based on NAVSEA drawing requirements
• Use of hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently
• Passing a hands-on welding practical test on SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P (5XXX Aluminum)
• Passing an oxy-fuel torch test within the first attempt
• Understanding and interpreting welding symbols based on Military Standard 22-D and Military Standard 1689
• Interpreting and understanding NAVSEA drawings/blueprints

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years shipyard Journeyperson level experience
• Ability to obtain DBIDS credential/Government clearance to enter NAVSTA and Navy Vessels
• Physical capability to perform the essential functions of the position
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
