Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Stationary Engineer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Stationary Engineer, you will be responsible for performing general maintenance activities for all AMG buildings and practice sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical tasks, including installation of conduit, wire, fixtures, junction boxes, replacement of bulbs, ballasts, diffusers, switches, plugs, receptacles, and cover plates.
  • Replace floor, wall, and ceiling tiles, and install new ceiling grid systems and floor installations.
  • Perform major plumbing repairs, including replacement of sinks, commodes, clearing of blocked drains, and replacement of piping, ejector pumps, sump pumps, etc.
  • Operate power tools, including electric drill, drill press, sander, saws, rodders, hoists, material handling equipment, cleaning equipment, grinder, pipe threaders, cutters, and benders.
  • Utilize hand tools proficiently.
  • Respond to and remedy heating and cooling requests, adjust control devices as needed, and have knowledge of boiler and chiller operations.
  • Perform a variety of cleanup tasks, including sweep and mop floors, dust and wipe, empty trash, organize, inventory, and requisition equipment and supplies.
  • Install general equipment, including bulletin boards, shelving, BP apparatus, pictures, and soap dispensers.
  • Perform major repair to clinical equipment, including exam tables, carts, wheelchairs, cleaning equipment, etc.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED, plus training required for STATIONARY ENGINEERS license.
  • Three years of experience working with boilers, pumps, H.V.A.C. systems, and associated equipment in a large institution or major facility or equivalent education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in the proper use of power tools and test equipment.
  • Specifics in one trade, general knowledge of maintenance, repairs, installations, and procedures.
  • Current City of Chicago, City of Elgin, or National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) stationary engineers license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel, walk, climb, push, pull, bend, and reach.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and toxic substances.
  • Ability to work in extreme cold or hot working conditions and confined spaces.
  • Ability to work on electrical circuits up to 220 VAC.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week, including holidays.
