Job Summary: As a Prison Healthcare Specialist, you will work closely with adults and children in custody to provide general and emergency nursing care. You will be responsible for implementing effective treatment plans, evaluating patient progress, and maintaining facility security standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Nursing Care: Utilize the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services that meet the needs of inmates.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and effective communication.
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to identify physiologic and psychosocial changes in patients' conditions and report findings to RNs and physicians.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient responses to interventions and maintain accurate records of patient care.
  • Safety and Infection Control: Monitor the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment, participating in infection control activities as directed.
  • Orientations and Continuing Education: Participate in staff orientations and continuing education programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Health Quality Improvement Program: Contribute to the Health Quality Improvement Program by identifying areas for improvement and suggesting solutions.
  • Security Guidelines: Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, following security guidelines and protocols at all times.

Requirements:

  • Licensure: Possess a current Practical Nursing License in the applicable state.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in Corrections preferred.
  • Compliance: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Amergis Competency Program: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • CPR Certification: Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire: TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Health Certificate: Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Federal, State, and Local Requirements: Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • New Hire Training: Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Patient Confidentiality: Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer Proficiency: Computer proficiency required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
