Job Overview
This role entails:
Providing technical and supportive patient care functions within designated specialty areas.

Engagement in departmental and hospital initiatives focused on Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement, identifying service enhancement opportunities, and implementing appropriate recommendations aligned with the objectives of Nemours Children's Health.

This is a part-time position, requiring 40 hours biweekly.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform various additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ensure adequate inventory of necessary equipment and supplies in designated areas at established par levels.
- Prepare anesthesia and surgical equipment and supplies for daily operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in work areas for all healthcare providers in the Surgical Suite (e.g., utility rooms, cast cart, hallways).
- Document and log activities requiring records.
- Clean and prepare equipment for future use.
- Transport specimens, lab requests, and medical records to appropriate locations.
- Prepare and check stretchers/beds for patient transport post-operation; ensure oxygen cylinders are replaced as needed.
- Recognize patient care priorities and communicate needs to relevant staff.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
- Comply with all hospital policies and procedures and internal controls established for the department.
- Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Specialty Areas:

Anesthesia for Surgery & Day Medicine:
- Set up IV fluids and tubing in accordance with policy.
- Prepare fluid warmer units for use during fluid administration.
- Clean and restock anesthesia carts with supplies, syringes, and intubation equipment as per policy.
- Conduct daily checks of anesthesia equipment.
- Prepare and calibrate transducers for invasive monitoring.
- Maintain an inventory of anesthesia supplies and restock as deliveries arrive.
- Ensure availability of infusion pumps for anesthesia providers.

Ambulatory Surgery Center and Day Medicine:
- Order special equipment/supplies as necessary.
- Participate in Tissue Management and Inventory Control.
- Oversee the loaning and borrowing of equipment/supplies.
- Serve as ASC Patient Safety Coach and attend relevant meetings.
- Engage in routine emergency drills and skills fairs with the Anesthesia & Perioperative Team.
- Review daily stock reports from Materials Management and communicate findings to leadership.


Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical terminology training preferred.
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) preferred.
