Job Title: Youth Development Specialist

Family Resources Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Development Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our residential program, you will play a vital role in providing direct care and supervision to our clients.

Job Summary:

The Youth Development Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients, while also providing a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters their growth and development. This is an entry-level position that requires close supervision, and we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about working with youth at risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct supervision and interaction with residents, including participation in all shelter activities.
  • Perform intake screening and paperwork, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
  • Respond to incoming telephone calls, provide information, and/or crisis intervention, and produce written documentation.
  • Assist with the planning and leading of all recreational activities, promoting a fun and engaging environment.
  • Transport clients as necessary to various community locations, ensuring safe and timely transportation.
  • Attend all mandatory agency and staff meetings, staying informed and engaged with program developments.
  • Monitor division of chores and completion of chores, as well as overall client behavior and attitude, providing daily team ratings.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of shelter, reporting needed repairs and maintenance to supervisor.
  • Supervise the self-administration of client medications, documenting in appropriate shelter records.
  • Verify medication upon intake and each shift worked, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Consistently implement the program's Behavior Motivation system, promoting positive behavior and growth.
  • Maintain client demographic information, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date records.
  • Document daily client interaction and case management contacts, providing valuable insights and feedback.
  • Prepare and serve meals in cook's absence, supervising clean-up as necessary.
  • Coordinate and organize activities and events for youth, promoting engagement and fun.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years general work experience with at least one year full-time work in a direct contact role with youth at risk, or an equivalent number of work hours in a part-time or volunteer direct contact role.
  • Associates' degree in behavioral science or related field may be substituted for two years of general work experience.
  • Demonstrate awareness, acceptance, and willingness to work with the LGBTQ population.
  • Computer literacy and competency.
  • Efficient planner, able to organize and schedule work priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and judgments with youth safety and security foremost.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and follow through on supervisory direction.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish appropriate relationships and effectively influence teens in manner consistent with agency culture and philosophy.
  • Ability to work with individuals from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate initiative, willingness to learn, and utilize behavior management skills and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, effective manner both orally and written means.
  • Background compliant with requirements of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
  • Valid Florida driver's license, clean driving record, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to successfully pass (with a score of 85%) a competency exam related to the understanding of positive youth development and other related elements of position requirements by end of 90-day probationary period.
Physical Demands:
  • The ability to lift 10-15 pounds regularly.

  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

  • The ability to hear and respond quickly to sounds.
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision.
