JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview
The Mixer Driver is accountable for the loading, transporting, and unloading of ready mix concrete from the batching facility to various customer locations, adhering to established safety protocols, service standards, and quality assurance measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, capable of taking direction and collaborating effectively in both team and independent settings.
- Comply with the Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and organizational policies.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with clients to address their needs, deliver exceptional customer service, and enhance PBM brand visibility. Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Verify that the load meets customer specifications regarding concrete consistency, including slump and additives.
- Accurately complete work tickets for each job, ensuring legibility and timeliness, and obtain customer signatures when necessary.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions from dispatch or plant management to ensure the quality of the concrete loaded into the mixer aligns with customer requirements and to confirm delivery directions.
- Differentiate between proper and improper concrete mixes, identifying issues such as excessive rockiness, sandiness, or moisture.
- Maintain all required logbooks, Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), and other Department of Transportation (DOT) documentation on a daily basis.
- Monitor hours of service (HOS) to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Understand and adhere to DOT rules and regulations, as well as state and federal requirements.
- Safely operate the mixer truck to deliver and unload concrete at customer job sites.
- Determine the most efficient route to customer locations, considering safety, traffic conditions, and state DOT regulations.
- Assess customer job sites to ensure safe operation of the truck and efficient delivery.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspections in accordance with company guidelines. Ensure truck maintenance, fluid levels, and fuel are adequate.
- Promptly report any mechanical issues with the vehicle to facilitate timely repairs by fleet maintenance.
- Utilize extension chutes as necessary to ensure effective unloading of concrete.
- Clean excess concrete from the truck's exterior surfaces (including chutes) using water at a location designated by the customer, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure the mixer drum is properly maintained and free from concrete buildup on the interior.
- Keep both the interior and exterior of the truck clean and organized, including the removal of road film and excess concrete.
- Adhere to all Safety, Health, Environmental, and other company policies and procedures.
- Wear appropriate protective gear and equipment as required, including hearing protection, dust masks, safety glasses, boots, harnesses, and other necessary clothing.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Able to operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- Familiarity with Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and paper logs.
- General knowledge of the local area is advantageous.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements.
- Proven ability to follow both oral and written instructions and work independently.
- Must be proficient in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English as per FMCSA requirements.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Candidate must be drug-free.
- This position involves moderately strenuous physical activity.
Physical Capabilities:
o Lift and carry up to 100 pounds from floor to waist or shoulder level occasionally.
o Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds frequently.
o Climb in and out of equipment 50+ times per day.
o Climb up and down ladders occasionally.
o Position oneself to stand, bend, hold, and reach for extended periods.
o Use hands, fingers, and feet to operate assigned equipment.
o Travel safely while walking and operating heavy machinery and/or trucks over uneven terrain, roads, and pavement.
o See, hear, and respond to verbal, visual, and written instructions.
o Wear proper protective equipment including hard hats, glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves.
o Observe all company safety policies on company premises and while operating equipment.
o Work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
o Occasionally work safely in wet, muddy, and slippery conditions.
- Work environment will vary from outdoor settings with fluctuating noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at operational sites, to a standard office environment.
