Position Overview

Electra Aero is in search of a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead the design, analysis, testing, and integration of vehicle subsystems for our state-of-the-art 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL aircraft. This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute directly to a pioneering development initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and direct the development of vehicle subsystems, from initial system architecture to final integration.
  • Provide expert guidance, technical assessments, and mentorship throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish subsystem and component specifications that align with safety, performance, and business goals.
  • Select and manage partnerships with suppliers, ensuring they meet the necessary integrated product engineering team deliverables.
  • Coordinate functional and physical interfaces between vehicle subsystems and the overall vehicle.
  • Conduct and review analyses, modeling, and simulations to ensure subsystems and components fulfill performance and safety standards.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to maintain program alignment.
  • Effectively communicate subsystem design, requirements, and performance details among the design team, management, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Grasp program objectives and requirements to perform trade studies and define architectures, requirements, and interfaces among subsystems.
  • Prepare and present findings at design reviews to validate design adequacy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or a related STEM field).
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in relevant disciplines (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).
Essential Skills
  • Familiarity with the aircraft development process and knowledge of aircraft subsystems.
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience in leading aerospace systems development from conceptual design to production.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification processes (particularly Part 23), and relevant industry standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (preferably NX) and mechanical systems analysis techniques (such as stress analysis, multi-body dynamics, thermal analysis, etc.).
  • US Person (Citizen or Green Card) preferred.
  • Licensed Pilot preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Work is typically conducted in a warehouse/aviation and office setting, requiring adherence to safety protocols. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs may be necessary.
Travel Requirements:
  • Less than 25% travel may be required.
Salary Information:
  • Electra Aero's salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $224,750. Individual compensation is determined by various factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, education, role, level, location, and project specifics.
