Key Responsibilities
Overview of the Fleet Maintenance Manager Role:
Lead, mentor, and develop team members. Assess employee performance and maintain visibility across all operational areas. Supervise multiple service shop operations. Strategically plan daily staffing to align with workload demands. Provide operational support concerning all equipment-related matters. Identify and implement cost-saving measures and efficiency improvements. Execute administrative tasks, including payroll approvals, repair order management, and compliance documentation. Address corrective actions related to direct reports. Ensure a clean and safe working environment for all personnel and equipment. Liaise with clients to meet operational and company requirements. Oversee equipment sent to external service providers for repairs. Conduct pre-shift briefings. Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Participate in the recruitment and hiring process for shop positions.Required Qualifications and Skills
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in fleet maintenance or operations, with 5-8 years in a management role. Previous experience as a technician or mechanic. High school diploma or equivalent qualification. Knowledge of heavy truck and trailer repair and maintenance. Willingness to travel as necessary to oversee multiple locations. Comprehensive understanding of DOT regulations, company policies, and procedures. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Proficient in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Fleet Management systems, with experience in large ERP/timekeeping systems.Working Environment
Exposure to high-traffic areas while performing job duties. Potential exposure to dust, diesel fumes, and noise. Contact with chemicals, oils, greases, or other irritants. Ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects. Capability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and crawl for vehicle repairs. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
