Position Overview

The Per Diem Family Medicine Physician will serve as an interim healthcare provider at Mary's Center, responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of various care interventions for patients with undiagnosed health issues. The physician will evaluate the effectiveness of treatment options and referrals through independent and accountable medical decisions supported by current research.

As a per diem provider, the Family Medicine Physician is expected to integrate seamlessly into the clinical team, fulfilling professional responsibilities related to patient care and administrative tasks post-visit. This role requires rotation across multiple sites.

This position reports directly to an Administrative Medical Director and collaborates with clinical leads. The clinician's performance will be evaluated annually on clinical competency by the Administrative Medical Director or their designated representatives.

Key Responsibilities

To excel in this role, the individual must effectively carry out the following duties:
  • Deliver quality primary care services to adult and pediatric patients at Mary's Center.
  • Provide medical services at any designated Mary's Center location as directed by Medical Leadership.
  • Adhere to quality standards such as HEDIS in medical practice.
  • Coordinate sub-specialty care in collaboration with nursing and social work staff.
  • Offer consultation and education to patients and their families to enhance the quality of care.
  • Work collaboratively with both internal and external healthcare providers to make informed medical decisions.
  • Facilitate the transfer of patients to emergency facilities and arrange hospital admissions as necessary.
  • Guide and support medical assistants in their duties.
  • Complete routine professional tasks (such as medical documentation, lab follow-ups, and billing corrections) efficiently and in accordance with Mary's Center policies.
  • Engage in team meetings and provider discussions as scheduling allows.
  • Contribute to projects and policy initiatives that benefit Mary's Center and its community.
  • Participate in weekend and evening clinic sessions as required.
  • Engage in Mary's Center's Continuous Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Administrative Medical Director or Executive Vice President of Medicine.
Qualifications

The following qualifications are essential for this role:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree and possess a valid medical license to practice in Maryland and DC, along with CDS and DEA authorization.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a community health clinic setting is preferred, with a focus on immigrant or economically disadvantaged populations in maternal/child healthcare being highly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations is crucial.
Language Proficiency – Effective communication in English is required; proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Physical Requirements – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear; must be able to lift objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds.

Work Environment – Primarily in a standard clinical office setting with a quiet to moderate noise level; some clinical care may be conducted remotely based on scheduling needs. Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and bodily fluids necessitates adherence to Universal Precautions.
