Description

In this role, the Building Structures Engineer will engage in essential technical tasks on projects by designing and evaluating structural systems, conveying the design through structural documentation, executing construction oversight duties, and collaborating throughout the design and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities of the Building Structures Engineer

  • Oversee the management of structural projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and high technical standards; show a commitment to enhancing technical and project management expertise.
  • Assist in the creation of drawings utilizing drafting/modeling software and through effective communication with drafters and designers.
  • Develop innovative solutions; convert concepts and information into visual representations; utilize feedback to refine and apply design principles while demonstrating meticulous attention to detail. Uphold high quality and consistent standards.
  • Prepare estimates for construction costs and specifications.
  • Contribute to the formulation and review of construction documents, including but not limited to drawings, submittals, geotechnical reports, and proposals to ensure precision and compliance with design.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives as necessary.
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate professionally with team members and other SKA disciplines, as well as external consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and owners.
  • Assist with field measurements, data collection, field reports, field observations, and/or site inspections.
  • Follow up on field observation reports and visit construction sites as required.
  • Support marketing and business development efforts in responding to RFQs, including interviews, resumes, and presentations.
  • Assist in the training, mentoring, and development of junior team members.
  • Engage in peer reviews.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations to enhance the technical reputation and image of the firm.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (structural emphasis) from an accredited institution. Required
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant structural engineering experience, ideally in a consulting engineering environment. Required
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Licensed Structural Engineer (SE). Required
  • Experience in designing structural steel and reinforced concrete framed buildings. Primary services include the design of new structures utilizing structural steel, mild reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, wood, masonry, and light gauge framing.
  • Experience in assessing damaged buildings, evaluating defective construction, and designing repairs for damaged structures using steel, concrete, wood, and masonry is highly valued.
  • Proficient in structural software such as RAM Structural System, RAM Elements, and/or RISA. Required
  • Skilled in modeling/drafting structural systems and producing design documents for buildings using AutoCAD and Revit. Required
  • Strong knowledge of design standards, building codes, and construction documentation, practices, terminology, and materials.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as necessary, up to 20% of the time, including occasional overnight stays.
