Position Overview

Job Summary

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Family Medicine team in a full-time capacity. This role is essential in providing quality care to our patients and supporting our healthcare providers.

Location: Family Medicine Leola

Work Schedule: Full-time, 32 hours per week, including one evening per week and a Saturday rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited body (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or NAHTR). If not currently certified, completion of a Medical Assistant training program is necessary prior to employment, with certification required within six months of hire.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is mandatory within 30 days of hire.
  • For regional roles, a valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One to two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary or specialty care setting.
Key Responsibilities:

Qualified candidates will be expected to perform the following duties:
  • Prepare patients for their visits using established protocols.
  • Administer injections as directed by the healthcare provider.
  • Prepare and administer medications in compliance with regulations.
  • Assist providers with various procedures and examinations.
  • Conduct Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Manage wound care, including suture removal and dressing changes.
  • Provide clinical advice through phone or electronic communication as per triage protocols.
  • Authorize prescription refills as directed.
  • Ensure exam rooms are well-stocked and maintained.
  • Engage in proactive outreach for patients needing preventive care.
  • Coordinate care among specialists and manage transitions of care.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and care quality.
  • Attend daily meetings with the healthcare provider.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with health privacy policies.
Additional Responsibilities:

Secondary duties may include:
  • Performing various front office tasks as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
