Job Title: Animal Control Officer II

Join the City of Sacramento's Animal Care Administration team as an Animal Control Officer II As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing animal control regulations, responding to animal-related inquiries and complaints, and providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas to monitor and enforce animal control regulations
  • Respond to animal-related inquiries and complaints from the public
  • Issue citations and warnings for animal control violations
  • Perform animal-related public safety and health duties

Requirements:

  • Eighteen months of experience in animal care or animal control, with six months in public contact work and enforcement of rules and regulations
  • Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Valid California Class C Driver License
  • State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Penal Code 832 (Arrest and Firearms) Certificate
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid Course Certificate

Working Conditions:

  • Work outside in various types of weather and unsanitary environments
  • Exposure to infectious, emotionally distressed, and confrontational people and aggressive animals
  • Must be willing to obtain a pre-exposure rabies vaccination and revaccination shots

Physical Conditions:

  • Regularly lift, carry, restrain, and capture animals between 60-70 pounds
  • Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
  • Walk, run, stand, or climb on slippery, even or uneven, and paved or unpaved surfaces

Selection Procedure:

  • Application: Pass/Fail
  • Training and Experience Exam: Weighted 100%
  • Eligibility: Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list
  • Screening Committee: Pass/Fail
  • Background Process: If considered for appointment, candidates must pass a background investigation
