Office Health Support Specialist

The Office Health Assistant will provide basic first aid, distribute medication, and cover basic office duties to meet the needs of the building.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluate and attend to student health needs, including checking vital signs and operating both general and specialized medical equipment when needed.
- Maintain health records and state mandated immunization records on students.
- Dispense medication and monitor the health of students with medical conditions.
- Communicate with the school nurse, staff, parents, medical clinics, and physician offices regarding student health needs.
- Maintain health office and order supplies as needed.
- Assist site with registration activities, including the gathering of health and immunization records.
- Attend required district and department trainings.
- Schedule and assist with vision and hearing screenings for students.
- Establish a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful school environment with a focus on social development and group responsibility by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Ensure the rights of all students are observed and protected through the use of appropriate and respectful communication and proper de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Provide for the basic needs of students as needed (e.g. toileting, assisting with medications, feeding, hygiene, etc.).
- Provide timely, accurate, and professional documentation with the standard practices of the school.
- Knowledge and/or coursework in child development.
- Positive attitude.
- Ability to form positive relationships with students.
- Excellent attendance and work habits.
- Ability to pass a background check with no criminal history.
- Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; ability to move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, and other classroom or adaptive equipment; may be required to list and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students; exposure to biological hazards.
