Job Overview

POSITION: Custodian, Facilities-Custodial Services (multiple openings)

ROLE SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across various designated areas within the Institute. This includes but is not limited to classrooms, laboratories, research spaces, conference rooms, lounges, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, entryways, elevators, private offices, auditoriums, gymnasiums, and secure zones such as entrance and office doors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Emptying trash and recycling bins and disposing of waste appropriately.
  • Thorough cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, including fixtures, restocking necessary supplies.
  • Dusting, polishing, and maintaining furniture and fixtures.
  • Cleaning chalkboards, trays, and erasers.
  • Preparing event spaces before and after use.
  • Performing dry and wet mopping, vacuuming, and general floor care.
  • Dusting and spot cleaning walls and doors at varying heights.
  • Sanitizing drinking fountains and cleaning interior windows.
  • Managing spills and debris due to leaks or flooding using appropriate equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, maneuver tilt trucks weighing up to 100 lbs, remain on foot for most of the shift, navigate stairs, and execute custodial duties effectively. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be utilized as dictated by specific tasks.


PREFERRED:
High school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of relevant experience.

SCHEDULE:
Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.

Custodians assigned to day or irregular shifts, including weekends and holidays, must possess a valid driver's license. Those already in these shifts prior to a specified date are exempt from this requirement. Custodians on other shifts are not mandated to have a driver's license, though those who do may be requested to drive voluntarily.


Custodians on irregular shifts are classified as essential personnel according to the Institute's Emergency Policy. In emergencies, these employees are only excused from their scheduled work with specific supervisor authorization, regardless of public announcements regarding closures.


Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
