We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Systems Technician to join our team at the Hamilton County Department of Education. As an Electrical Systems Technician, you will be responsible for performing skilled, semi-skilled, and manual tasks associated with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment in our school buildings and related facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform electrical work on school buildings, equipment, systems, and related facilities, including installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment.
- Coordinate projects with other trade/craft employees or outside contractors as required.
- Install, repair, replace, and maintain electrical fixtures, systems, equipment, and related components in compliance with applicable codes.
- Perform various skilled, semi-skilled, and manual tasks associated with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment, including troubleshooting electrical problems, installing new electrical services, and repairing existing electrical services.
- Read and interpret maps, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Respond to work orders or work requests to conduct various repair/maintenance projects as assigned.
- Conduct maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, and facilities to identify necessary repairs.
- Ensure that physical structures, equipment/system operations, and repair/maintenance activities are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
- Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects.
- Perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
- Transport, load, and unload various equipment and materials used in projects.
- Communicate through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Follow safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, and monitor work environment to ensure safety of employees, students, and other individuals.
- Work collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Attend work and arrive to work on time.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- Attend meetings as needed.
- Travel to school locations and other locations throughout the district to perform job tasks.
- Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
- Prepare or complete forms and other documents as required.
- Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Vocational/technical training in electrical systems.
- Five (5) months previous experience and/or training involving installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems/equipment and general building maintenance.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to safely operate the required equipment and tools to complete job assignments.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, diagrams, maps, and other documents.
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
- Ability to work in adverse weather and environmental conditions.
