We are seeking a highly skilled Solar Physics Research Fellow to join our team at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, collaborate with leading experts in the field, and contribute to the development of new research initiatives.



**Job Summary:**



The Solar Physics Research Fellow will perform scientific research using data from the SPICE instrument on Solar Orbiter, a state-of-the-art spacecraft designed to study the Sun and its impact on the solar atmosphere. You will work closely with our team of researchers to analyze and interpret SPICE data in combination with data from other Solar Orbiter instruments and Heliophysics missions.



**Responsibilities:**



**Data Analysis and Research:**




  • Perform scientific research using data from the SPICE instrument on Solar Orbiter, including data reduction, analysis, and modeling.
  • Contribute to the development of new research initiatives and proposals for future projects.
  • Present research results at international scientific meetings and conferences.


**Collaboration and Communication:**




  • Collaborate with other researchers at SwRI and international partners to analyze and interpret SPICE data.
  • Communicate research results to colleagues and the broader scientific community through presentations and publications.
  • Participate in SPICE Consortium meetings and develop joint observing campaigns with other researchers.


**Requirements:**



To be considered for this position, you should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or an equivalent degree field. You should also have:




  • 2 years of experience as a graduate student in Solar Physics, solar spectroscopy, and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in data reduction and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python, IDL/Solarsoft (or similar) programming languages.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team setting.


**Estimated Salary:**



$85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

The position is based at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas.
