Leadership and Representation

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is responsible for providing guidance, support, and representation for the Occupational Therapy department in their designated building. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the team and other departments.

Coordination and Communication

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is expected to relay directives from the Occupational Therapy Supervisor and Building Leader to the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy department. They are also responsible for providing effective inter and intra department communication by coordinating Occupational Therapy services to ensure consistency in practice and approach.

Quality Assurance

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead will uphold and promote the highest standards of Occupational Therapy practice, ensuring services are delivered with excellence and integrity. They will maintain and enhance the quality of Occupational Therapy services provided, ensuring adherence to established standards, guidelines, and best practices.

Current Literature and Best Practices

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is expected to stay updated with the latest research, literature, and best practices in Occupational Therapy. They will share relevant findings and evidence-based practices with the team to ensure that the Occupational Therapy department utilizes current and effective methods.

Model Treatment

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is expected to exemplify best practices in Occupational Therapy, setting a high standard of excellence for clinical care and professional conduct.

Mentorship

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is expected to be an expert in their chosen area of interest and provide mentorship to the department on that area. They will also provide daily mentorship in their specific building gym to answer any questions from treating therapists. Mentorship will be further executed by providing co-treatments with treating therapists at least once a week.

Specific Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is responsible for overseeing the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy team in the Queens gym, providing support and direction. They will also manage the scheduling of Occupational Therapy services and staff shifts within the Queens gym. Additionally, they will ensure that Occupational Therapy programs and interventions are effectively implemented and aligned with overall goals. They will also maintain the operational readiness of the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy facilities in Queens, ensuring that all equipment and resources are in good condition.

Annual Reviews

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is responsible for recording report due dates on a tracker and notifying treating therapists. They will also update the tracker as Annual Reviews are completed, review and edit Annual Reviews, alert therapists to complete corrections, finalize completed reports, submit completed reports to the building-specific principal, and submit completed Annual Reviews. They will also check all progress marks for completion and accuracy, record errors on the appropriate tracker, contact therapists for corrections, update the tracker when corrections have been completed, and ensure that Progress Marks are complete quarterly at the due date provided by the building leader.

Creating/Maintaining Data Trackers

The Occupational Therapy Department Lead is responsible for maintaining the following trackers in addition to the above report trackers: Makeup Session trackers, Weekly productivity tracker, and Parent communication tracker. They will also hold meetings with their direct reporting therapists twice a week, once for a discussion meeting and once for a co-treatment. They will also monitor inventory and report to the Occupational Therapy Supervisor when supplies are low, create and manage a wish list of items, determine the necessity of items needed, and create purchase orders to send to the Occupational Therapy Supervisor and coordinating administration. They will also send applicant demo details for potential students, attend new hire interviews, train new staff on Occupational Therapy department-specific policies and procedures, and provide a school tour, go over what a typical day looks like, use Fusion, use PowerSchool, Teams chats, and Occupational Therapy expectations.
