Tanner Memorial Clinic is seeking a qualified Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technician to join our dedicated team.
Location: Layton Parkway
Schedule: Part-time, evenings, 20 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct preliminary assessments of patients to identify any contraindications, including the presence of ferrous materials, pregnancy, prosthetic heart valves, cardiac pacemakers, or tattoos.
- Operate MRI machines effectively to capture high-quality images.
- Select the most suitable imaging techniques or coils to achieve the desired imaging results.
- Review images to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Gather brief medical histories from patients prior to procedures.
- Position patients correctly on the imaging cradle, utilizing immobilization devices as necessary to ensure optimal imaging conditions.
- Clearly explain MRI procedures to patients and their families to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Administer intravenous contrast agents, such as gadolinium, in accordance with professional guidelines.
- Provide patients with headphones or earplugs to enhance comfort and minimize noise exposure during procedures.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervising staff.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- ARRT certification is mandatory.
- MRI certification is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in MRI is advantageous.
Additional Requirements:
- IV certification is preferred.
- CPR certification is preferred.
Performance Expectations:
Knowledge:
- Understanding of sterile techniques during IV access procedures for contrast agent administration.
- Ability to consult with radiologists regarding the necessity of contrast agents for diagnostic purposes.
- Awareness of safety protocols and standards relevant to MRI operations.
Skills:
- Proficiency in both basic and advanced patient positioning, particularly with patients who have implants.
Abilities:
- Capability to initiate and manage an IV system in response to contrast reactions.
- Comprehension of medical terminology to facilitate effective communication with radiologists and referring physicians.
- Ability to maintain a sterile and organized MRI environment.
- Competence in performing quality assurance checks on MRI systems and documenting findings.
- Skill in identifying and addressing operational issues within the department.
- Demonstrated interest in patient interaction and clear communication.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
Equipment Utilized: Standard MRI machinery for medical diagnostics.
Work Environment: Potential exposure to infectious diseases.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Must be capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds and positioning patients appropriately. The role may involve managing stress associated with anxious patients.
