We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team at the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center. As a Registered Nurse III, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive, high-quality care to patients navigating their journey on the road to recovery.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care for patients by following professional, hospital, departmental, and certification standards to maintain quality care.
- Identify and address patient needs by performing nursing assessments and developing nursing interventions.
- Assume charge nurse responsibility on an as-needed basis to provide critical thinking, prioritization, and delegation of patient care needs.
- Supervise employees of a lesser grade by assigning tasks, based on individual competencies, evaluating performance, and making recommendations concerning performance to maintain a high level of quality care.
- Perform duties of medication nurse by administering medication, communicating with physicians, transcribing orders, maintaining controlled count, and documenting to maintain accurate records.
- Work with patients by providing instruction to facilitate the independent management of their personal, hygiene, and health needs.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients, coordinating health care services to ensure continuity of care following standards established by hospital policy and certification guidelines.
- Identify, evaluate, and respond to changes in patient conditions, documenting and reporting such changes to appropriate personnel to ensure prompt response to patient needs.
- Provide psychosocial support to patients through individual counseling and group work to maintain the therapeutic milieu.
- Perform tasks of assigned staff in their absence to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain an awareness of the DMH regulations and hospital policy and procedure regarding the use of seclusion and restraint, through supervision and instruction, to maintain patient dignity and human rights.
- Maintain professional proficiencies by attending and participating in in-service trainings and educational programs to foster growth and development.
- Practice Principles of Safety, Hope, and Healing to provide a safe environment.
- Maintain and communicate to nursing staff through knowledge of DMH, CMS, and JC and HIPAA standards to maintain standards of care.
- Knowledge of the problems in providing nursing services in a general/psychiatric setting.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished.
- Ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress and in stressful settings.
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
