Key Responsibilities:- Provide psychological preparation, support, and distraction for potentially stressful experiences.
- Develop and implement care plans for individuals and groups based on assessment of the child's development, temperament, coping style, culture, spirituality, potential stressors, family needs, and social supports.
- Facilitate improvements and ongoing maintenance of pediatric play spaces and waiting rooms to promote child and family-friendly environments.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide consultation and education on the unique needs of children and families.
- Coordinate and facilitate school re-entry for children with chronic illnesses, providing educational resources to students and school faculty as needed.
- Supervise Child Life interns, students, and volunteers, ensuring they receive the necessary training and support.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Child Life, child development, or a related field.
- Child Life certification preferred within one year of hire.
- 480-hour Child Life internship completed under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
This role requires working in a clinical setting, including office and playroom environments, with frequent interaction with patients and families. The ability to work in a slower-paced environment, taking time to help children and their families cope with illness, is essential.
Physical Demands:The Child Life Specialist must be able to carry a heavy baby or toddler (up to 40 pounds) and a toy bag (25 pounds) multiple times a day. They must also be able to push a game cart (20 pounds of force) and wheelchair patients (up to 70 pounds of push force) when needed. Frequent bending, kneeling, and twisting are also required.
