We are seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at UMass Lowell. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction for the department's future growth in interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate education, cutting-edge research, community and industry partnerships, and faculty and staff hiring.
The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences is a multidisciplinary department that offers undergraduate degrees in applied biomedical sciences, nutritional science, and pharmaceutical sciences. Faculty in the department participate in an interdisciplinary master's in public health program in Dietetics, as well as graduate programs in biomedical engineering and biotechnology and public health.
The Chair will be responsible for continuing our strong emphasis on student success, recruiting and retaining highly qualified faculty, and guiding department growth in new strategic areas. An ambitious expansion of the departmental research enterprise is a key goal for the new chair, as is increasing academic-industry partnerships.
The Chair will be supported by a department administrative team and will be an integral part of the College's leadership team. The successful candidate will have a strong record of federal funding, experience with higher education leadership, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in any biomedical or health-related field
- Strong track record in externally funded research
- Substantial publication record
- Demonstrated excellence in mentoring, teaching, and service
- Experience with undergraduate, graduate, and accredited programs
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and interdisciplinary teams
- Previous rank of associate or full professor with tenure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of excellence in leadership roles and interpersonal skills
- Ability to successfully collaborate with faculty and upper administration
- Experience recruiting faculty with strong research agendas and mentoring them through the tenure process
