Position: Preschool Floater
Role SummaryThe Preschool Floater is responsible for creating a nurturing, secure, and engaging educational atmosphere for young children within the preschool setting, which includes classrooms, outdoor play areas, and during excursions. This role focuses on fostering the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of children while transitioning between various classrooms. This is a part-time role primarily scheduled for afternoons and early evenings.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of age-appropriate practices and activities across all classroom settings to comply with the YWCA of Lubbock's and State of Texas' Licensing Standards.
- Assist in integrating all program areas into the curriculum, including education, nutrition, mental health, health, disabilities, and transportation.
- Help maintain a safe and healthy learning environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Contribute to a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
- Keep accurate records on children and their families.
- Ensure child-staff ratios are adhered to at all times.
- Build strong, caring relationships with children.
- Encourage parental involvement in classroom and center activities.
- Assist in conducting necessary assessments for children.
- Participate in home visits and parent conferences.
- Conduct daily health checks.
- Treat children and families from diverse backgrounds with respect and consideration.
- Follow established child guidance methods.
- Adhere to TDFPS regulations.
- Be knowledgeable about legal and professional responsibilities regarding the reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect and follow all child abuse prevention policies.
- Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of the classroom.
- Effectively coordinate and communicate with other staff and management.
- Engage in training and workshops for professional growth; maintain required certifications and hours.
- Represent the organization at various events as needed.
- Fill in for the Preschool Teacher during their absence.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Preferred early childhood education certifications, such as Child Development Associate (CDA).
- Understand and support the mission, vision, and policies of the YWCA to fulfill the organization's goals while serving as a positive role model.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A High School diploma or GED is required.
- Meet all other personnel requirements set by the YWCA.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
- Minimal travel may be required: 0-10 days per year.
- Pass a criminal history background check and FBI fingerprint check.
- Ability to connect with a diverse range of populations.
