Position Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation for cable installation.
  • Participating in cable installation activities (including 18-2, RG 6, Cat5e, and Fiber Optics).
  • Supporting cable termination processes (such as butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks, and BNC).
  • Assisting in the testing of cables (using tools like VOM, Continuity tester, TDR, and OTDR).
  • Helping in the mounting of devices (including Readers, Door Contacts, REXs, and Cameras).
  • Locating TSS field devices on blueprints (including Readers, Door Contacts, REXs, and Cameras).
  • Accurately interpreting elevation and mounting details on blueprints for device installation.
  • Identifying differences between ESS codes and standards to complete assigned tasks (such as cable pulling and device mounting).
  • Recognizing various types of cables and their applications (including Cable Markings, Class 2 & 3, Communication, Plenum, Shielded, and High Performance).
  • Identifying different types of connectors and their applications (including butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks, and BNC).
  • Assisting in the installation of raceways and pathways.
  • Supporting simple conduit bending as necessary (such as 90-degree and offsets for head-end devices).
  • Assisting in the termination of devices (including Readers, Door Contacts, REXs, and Cameras).
  • Maintaining and repairing electronic security system equipment.
  • Utilizing basic tools, safety equipment, and specific electronic tools, including VOM meters, COAX strippers, BNC Crimpers, and various crimp tools.
  • Performing other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience with a High School Diploma or G.E.D, possessing basic reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  • 2,000+ hours of documented on-the-job training.
  • Prior experience in construction or electronic security is preferred.
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, and understanding the English language is required.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the following: Apprenticeship Core Curriculum, Apprenticeship Level One Curriculum, OSHA 10, Ethics Training, First Aid/CPR, Powder Actuated Tools, and VA DCJS.
  • Selected applicants will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • OEM Electronic Security System certifications are advantageous but not mandatory for this role.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Capability to write reports, proposals, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.
  • Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capability to question activities and issues across all functional areas and make informed business decisions based on collected data.
