The Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island is seeking dedicated Licensed Veterinary Technicians to provide exceptional care in our advanced veterinary specialty and emergency critical care facility.
Position Details
We currently have openings in our Emergency & Critical Care Department, with shifts available during evenings, weekends, and overnight hours. Additional positions are available in various specialties including Critical Care, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, and Dermatology for daytime and weekend shifts.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive salaries along with a comprehensive benefits package. Full-time and part-time positions are available, and we provide a $5,000 sign-on bonus for full-time applicants.
Role Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Technician, you will:
- Deliver high-quality medical care to both in-patient and out-patient animals under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Exhibit proficiency in animal restraint and perform essential procedures such as blood draws and catheter placements.
- Conduct laboratory procedures, including blood and specimen handling, fecal assays, and urinalysis.
- Utilize radiographic techniques and positioning effectively.
- Administer intravenous medications and anesthetic agents, while monitoring patients for medical emergencies.
- Maintain aseptic techniques in surgical settings, including the cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
- Assist in surgical procedures as directed by the veterinary doctor.
- Ensure cleanliness in all areas of the facility, including kennels and surgical prep rooms.
- Manage controlled drug logs and inventory.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing education and support.
- Familiarize yourself with veterinary software programs.
Qualifications
- New York State license required; eligibility for licensing accepted.
- General knowledge of veterinary instruments and supplies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle animals of various sizes and work with biological materials.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in emergency medicine and private practice is preferred.
- Ideal candidates will be organized, compassionate, and eager to contribute to a collaborative veterinary practice.
Work Environment
This position requires in-person attendance and offers a variety of shifts including day, evening, and overnight schedules.
