Position Overview

The CT Imaging Technologist is responsible for conducting computed tomography scans to generate detailed images of various body structures for diagnostic evaluation as per the directives of the radiologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather relevant information regarding the patient and the imaging procedure.
  • Confirm patient identity and validate the physician's request.
  • Ensure all necessary screening protocols are completed before the patient enters the scanning area.
  • Assess the patient's pregnancy status when applicable.
  • Provide clear explanations about the imaging process to the patient.
  • Confirm that the patient has consented to the procedure and address any inquiries.
  • Deliver precise instructions and information at suitable times, ensuring patient comprehension.
  • Evaluate data during the assessment phase to determine optimal imaging settings based on the diagnosis.
  • Verify patient preparation for the imaging procedure.
  • Identify any factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or inadequate preparation.
  • Select suitable shielding and immobilization tools.
  • Review patient records and physician orders to establish optimal scanning parameters for suspected conditions.
  • Administer contrast materials in accordance with established protocols.
  • Obtain written consent prior to the administration of intravenous or oral contrast.
  • Review laboratory results before administering contrast agents.
  • Determine the appropriate type and dosage of contrast agent to be used.
  • Complete oral contrast screening forms as necessary.
  • Monitor the patient throughout the examination for any adverse reactions to contrast media.
  • Utilize sterile techniques to prepare the site and initiate IV access when required.
  • Capture high-quality images during the scanning process.
  • Reformat images as necessary to enhance visualization of anatomy or pathology according to established guidelines.
  • Transmit images to the PACS for radiologist interpretation.
  • Archive images to CD or data storage devices as required.
  • Document patient care, examination details, and patient history in the appropriate records.
  • Ensure correct orders are entered into the RIS.
  • Document relevant patient history in the PACS system.
  • Record any deviations from established protocols.
  • Scan relevant documents into the PACS system.
  • Complete medication reconciliation documentation in line with departmental policies.
  • Facilitate communication with all departments to ensure timely completion of procedures.
  • Collaborate with Centralized Scheduling, nursing units, and emergency services to accommodate urgent requests.
  • Respond to emergency calls as per departmental protocols.
  • Maintain the imaging workstation in optimal condition.
  • Conduct daily quality control checks on CT equipment.
  • Ensure adequate patient care and office supplies are available.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to the service provider.
  • Implement downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Coordinate the rescheduling of patients during equipment downtime.
  • Initiate established downtime procedures during HIS/RIS and PACS outages.
  • Perform daily glucometer quality control checks.
  • Conduct glucometer procedures on patients.
  • Maintain annual glucometer competency.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Required: Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology Program recognized by ARRT. A minimum of six months of experience as a CT Technologist within the last two years or six months of experience as a Staff Technologist. Strong leadership, organizational, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liabilities in nursing practice. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics to diverse audiences. Proficient in medical terminology and possess strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred: Completion of advanced level examination in CT with RT(CT) credentialing. Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and advanced-level CT certification by the ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in computed tomography.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved American Heart Association program.
  • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewals.
Work Environment

Effective safety measures are in place, including the use of goggles, face shields, and masks as per CDC guidelines. The role may require travel between various locations.
