Job Title: Staff Attorney - Immigration Law Expert

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is seeking a highly skilled Staff Attorney to join our team. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a critical role in providing technical support and capacity building to public defenders and immigration advocates who defend the rights of noncitizens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical information and support to public defenders and immigration advocates on post-conviction relief and crim/imm issues.
  • Analyze new legal developments and write practice advisories for attorneys, paralegals, community members, and policymakers.
  • Prepare and lead webinars and in-person seminars on immigration law topics, including crim/imm and post-conviction relief.
  • Work as a team to create and update materials, including online resources and ILRC manuals.
  • Write, update, and edit chapters in ILRC manuals on post-conviction relief, immigration consequences of crimes, and criminal bars to immigration relief.
  • Work as an Attorney of the Day to answer individual case questions.
  • Cultivate relationships with public defender offices in rural areas of California.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience litigating post-conviction relief motions in California is required.
  • Experience and expertise in defending the rights of noncitizens who have come into contact with the criminal legal system.
  • A minimum of four years of experience defending clients in a crim/imm context.
  • Broad knowledge of the intersection of criminal and immigration law and California post-conviction relief.
  • Excellent writing, editing, legal analysis, and oral presentation skills.
