Summary
The City of Bend's Transportation and Mobility Department is seeking a full-time Lead Transportation Engineer. This role is a non-represented, FLSA exempt position, reporting to the Assistant City Engineer and may include supervision of Engineering Technicians.
Position Overview
The City of Bend is committed to enhancing our multi-modal transportation system for all users. This includes the development of projects and implementation of programs that support our recent Transportation Plan update and a ten-year General Obligation Bond. The ideal candidate will be a proactive senior-level engineer who applies their extensive experience in multi-modal transportation to expand travel options and enhance safety for individuals of all ages and abilities.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Oversee project management and delivery for major projects or several projects of moderate scope with complex features, including concept development, design, specifications, and construction management.
- Review project-related documents prepared by others and provide necessary feedback.
- Administer engineering activities in design, construction inspection, and traffic management.
- Collaborate with other City staff to plan project completions and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Manage project budgets, ensuring accountability for all expenses and reporting any concerns regarding budget goals.
- Represent the department in meetings with consultants regarding assigned projects.
- Promote safety requirements and practices within the workplace.
- Respond to emergencies as directed to restore essential public services.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer in the State of Oregon or the ability to obtain it within six months of appointment.
- A valid driver's license in accordance with City policies.
Skills and Abilities
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering methods and practices.
- Project management skills and the ability to apply engineering principles effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
