Structural Metal Craftsman

We are seeking a highly skilled Metal Fabrication Specialist to join our team at the City of New York. As a Metal Fabrication Specialist, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural metal components for various applications.

• Fabricate and assemble metal components using various techniques, including cutting, drilling, forging, burning, welding, and brazing.
• Lay out jobs and create patterns and templates as required.
• Operate hand and powered tools, as well as welding, burning, and brazing equipment, to assemble and attach fabricated components to equipment and structures.
• Perform specialized and structural welding, and rigging as required.
• Direct the work of assigned personnel and maintain records and make reports.
• Operate motor vehicles as necessary.

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a journeyman/journeywoman metalwork mechanic, blacksmith, or welder in fabricating, installing, and metalworking plates, structural shapes, or other metal components.
• At least three years of experience as described above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience.

• A valid Welder's License issued by the New York City Department of Buildings and certified for Class I Shop and Field.
• A Certificate of Fitness Type G38 or Type G95 Torch Use of O-2 Combustion Gas, issued by the New York City Fire Department.
• A Class C Commercial Driver License with a Hazardous Materials endorsement and no restrictions that would preclude the performance of Metal Fabrication Specialist duties valid in the State of New York.
