About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Instructor of American Sign Language to join our team at the University of South Carolina. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching language courses at all levels, as well as courses in Deaf culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach language courses at all levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels
  • Develop and implement curriculum for Deaf culture courses
  • Maintain an excellent record of teaching and engage in various instructional responsibilities
  • Stay updated on current trends and best practices in sign language education
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Deaf Education, Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, Special Education, Communication, or Bicultural or Bilingual Education
  • Two years of successful ASL teaching experience at the college level
  • Fluency in ASL and English
  • Provisional Level Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (optional)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to effectively use technology in the classroom
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of the Deaf community
