Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Tufts Medical Center. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in facilitating patient care and flow by performing preliminary work-ups, including history taking and various screenings and diagnostic tests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient physical history, including chief complaint, reason for visit, current medications, allergies, past and current ocular and medical history.
  • Perform various screenings and tasks as ordered by the physician, including visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, keratometry, pupil evaluation, and measurement of eye pressure.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging, such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Topography, Visual Fields, and IOL Master.
  • Prepare patient consent forms and assist physicians with in-office procedures as needed.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing the performance of this position.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus experience in an ophthalmic or healthcare-related setting.
  • Knowledge of eye terminology, basic anatomy, and physiology of the eye preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume clinic environment.
Working Conditions
  • Close contact with patients, including children, adolescents, elderly, and sensory handicapped individuals.
  • Busy multi-specialty practice environment.
  • May be required to float to satellite offices and provide own transportation.
