Job Summary

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Classroom Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality educational programs for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in completing assigned responsibilities for instruction, planning, organization, activity implementation, evaluation, childcare, and record maintenance.
  • Support the development of curriculum and related materials used in the classroom.
  • Participate in the implementation of individual education programs for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioral problems and help them develop social skills.
  • Assist teachers in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Supervise student trainees and volunteers in the classroom.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Department-Specific Functions
  • Implement curriculum, under the direction and guidance of teachers, following goals on each student's Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) and/or Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education programs for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Support teachers in photocopying, maintaining student records, and preparing materials.
  • Work with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instructions that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Work with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
  • Assist teachers in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
  • Assumes and implements teacher responsibilities under the guidance of the Head Teacher.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work 12-month school year.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.
