Position Title: Healthcare Security Specialist (Full Time, Day Shift)
Overview:
The Healthcare Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the hospital premises, including buildings, grounds, and offsite facilities, to deter incidents of fire, theft, vandalism, and to ensure the safety of all individuals on site. This role operates under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor and the Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to attendance policies and collaborate effectively with team members to maintain patient and staff safety.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, and colleagues, as assessed by departmental customer service evaluations.
- Assist in escorting visitors, patients, and staff throughout the hospital premises as required.
- Conduct thorough investigations of unusual incidents reported by hospital personnel, documenting findings in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Maintain accurate logs and checklists, including security calls, dispatcher communications, surveillance systems, and access points.
- Perform regular patrols to secure the main campus, ensuring that all access points are locked and secure after hours.
- Identify and report safety and fire hazards encountered during routine inspections.
- Respond promptly to requests from medical staff, providing necessary support in line with hospital guidelines.
- React to alarms and emergency codes swiftly and appropriately.
- Document detailed incident reports and maintain daily activity logs as per hospital standards.
- Conduct Fire Watches for construction areas at specified intervals.
- Monitor elevator malfunctions to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
- Oversee visitor registration processes to uphold safety protocols.
- Address any emergency situations efficiently, following established procedures.
- Assist medical personnel in the respectful transport of deceased patients.
- Supervise behavioral health patients to ensure their safety and compliance with hospital standards.
- Secure the helipad area for incoming air transport as necessary.
- Conduct monthly checks of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to ensure compliance.
- Provide continuous observation of behavioral health patients, employing non-violent crisis intervention strategies.
Qualifications:
- Certification in AED from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of employment.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- FL Security D License required within 90 days of employment.
- Completion of the NCH Security Training Program within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification in Basic Security Officer Healthcare Training (IAHSS) preferred.
- Prior experience in a security role within a healthcare environment preferred.
- Experience in customer service within the hospitality sector preferred.
- Basic proficiency in computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
