Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Controls System Designer to support our client in the field of automation and control systems. This role is essential for the development and documentation of control systems tailored to specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed drawings and documentation for each project, adhering to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance to both team members and clients as needed.
  • Support the training of control panel assembly technicians and apprentices under the direction of the department manager.
  • Organize and maintain project components and inventory within the panel shop.
  • Compile lists of materials required for purchase on a project basis for the purchasing manager.
  • Keep the department manager updated on progress and any issues encountered during the control design and assembly phases.
  • Timely update all departmental checklists and documentation.
  • Conduct pre-job screenings and complete the necessary screening forms.
  • Review sales or customer correspondence against the working quote.
  • Notify the supervisor of any significant cost or design discrepancies.
  • Order long lead time items promptly.
  • Develop schematic or wiring diagrams as required for the job.
  • Create a comprehensive bill of materials for control panel assembly.
  • Release orders for remaining components needed for the job.
  • Design panel layout diagrams for assembly processes.
  • Provide detailed terminal strip drawings for control enclosures and junction boxes.
  • Design festoons/E-Chain and procure all necessary materials.
  • Complete assembly diagrams as required.
  • Order materials that are not typically maintained in inventory.
  • Assess runway conductor and current collector requirements and release orders for these materials.
  • Generate as-built drawings for completed projects.
  • Ensure all relevant design materials are copied to the appropriate directory on the main server.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in the development of industrial motor control systems is essential.
  • Background in the overhead crane industry is preferred.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical products.
  • Familiarity with AC and DC motors.
  • Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Understanding of NEC and UL guidelines and processes.
  • Experience with general manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in computer-aided design, particularly with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

This position offers a direct hire opportunity with compensation based on experience level.
