Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and utilizing GIS data and workflows to support park needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain GIS databases to support park operations.
  • Create geospatial data and maps following established guidelines to inform park management decisions.
  • Integrate a wide range of data topics (biological, physical, or cultural) into tabular and spatial formats to support park resource management.
  • Communicate effectively with park staff and stakeholders to ensure GIS data and products meet their needs.
  • Train and support field data collection hardware and apps (GPS/GNSS) to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following OPM's Qualification Standards by close of the announcement:

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or comparable experience gained in the private sector.
  • 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
  • A combination of education and experience as described above.
