Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at the National Park Service. As a GIS Specialist, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and utilizing GIS data and workflows to support park needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain GIS databases to support park operations
  • Create geospatial data and maps following established guidelines
  • Integrate a wide range of data topics into tabular and spatial formats
  • Communicate effectively with park staff and stakeholders to ensure GIS data meets their needs
  • Train and support field data collection hardware and apps (GPS/GNSS)
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
  • May be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of official duties
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one of the following OPM's Qualification Standards:

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or comparable experience gained in the private sector
  • 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include designing and maintaining GIS databases, creating geospatial data and maps following established guidelines, and integrating a wide range of data topics into tabular and spatial formats.

Working Conditions

The work is often sedentary, but field work occasionally requires some physical exertion. Outdoor work may occur in hot, cold, humid, or dry weather conditions. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
