Position Overview
This position involves working collaboratively across various departments to design automotive body structures and components within the Upperbody Design division. The goal is to meet or surpass customer expectations while balancing aesthetics, functionality, and vehicle performance, ensuring safety, reliability, noise, vibration, and handling characteristics, along with cost-effectiveness and manufacturability. Responsibilities may encompass both structural and styled components in the cabin area, utilizing diverse materials such as steel, aluminum, plastics, and composites, along with various manufacturing techniques including stamping, injection molding, and casting. Additionally, this role may involve research and development of innovative technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage 3D models, layouts, and 2D drawings utilizing CATIA software.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with internal teams, including design, testing, styling, manufacturing, and procurement.
  • Oversee part development processes with suppliers, establishing design objectives and ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Assist in part and vehicle validation, including the formulation of corrective actions as necessary.
  • Evaluate and manage part costs, weight, and investments throughout the development phase, including supplier quote assessments.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CATIA or other 3D CAD software, with strong organizational and multitasking abilities, alongside effective verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Most tasks are performed in an office setting.
  • Occasional interactions in testing labs, fabrication, and manufacturing environments.
  • Overtime may be required, averaging 5-10 hours per week.
  • Limited domestic travel may be necessary.
