Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat acute and episodic illnesses independently or as part of a healthcare team, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Perform routine medical examinations on employees under established guidelines.
  • Provide medical treatment and services, consistent with the provision of basic health care services, in conjunction with a physician.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and clinical practice guidelines, in collaboration with patients' personal physicians.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances and recommending interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies based on patients' diagnosis, permitted under State and DEA licensure.
  • Counsel patients on prescribed drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other drugs or substances.
  • Schedule follow-up visits with clinic or private physician to monitor patients or evaluate health or illness care.
  • Document all health care services provided and include comprehensive records of health care plans and prognosis in the patients' medical record.
  • Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
  • Conduct prior authorization and peer-to-peer review for Facility Care, Rehabilitation, and Consultations, when requested.
  • Perform concurrent reviews for Level of Care (LOC), Length of Stay (LOS) management.
  • Determine if professionally recognized standards for quality care are met.
  • Assist with denial management process.
  • Conduct clinical reviews to meet regulatory requirements and quality patient care.
  • Stay current with developments in nursing by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations or conferences.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state legal regulations for nurse practitioner practice and licensure requirements.
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedures in areas such as safety and infection control.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the state of Florida, as well as a current Florida Pharmacy license.
  • Two (2) years of direct Nurse Practitioner work experience preferred.
  • Understanding of managed care guidelines and impact on services.
  • Pre-authorization or Concurrent Review experience, preferred.
  • Ability to perform complete physical appraisals of patients.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses.
  • Ability to initiate diagnostic laboratory tests and evaluate the results.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to compile and evaluate medical histories and other clinical and laboratory data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Ability to analyze medical documentation and apply criteria to determine medical necessity, acuity of care, severity of illness, and intensity of service.
Compensation and Benefits

The GEO Group, Inc. offers a competitive salary range of $140,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year, plus a 10% bonus.
