Position Overview
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the Practical Nursing Specialist delivers nursing care to patients. This role includes the responsibility for gathering data related to patient conditions, ongoing assessment, measurement, and documentation of patient responses; as well as providing education to patients and their families. Additional patient care responsibilities are performed as permitted by licensure.Key Responsibilities
- Delivers patient care according to a personalized care plan as assigned by the Registered Nurse or Physician, addressing the physical, emotional, cultural, spiritual, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient.
- Observes and records patient status and condition, which may encompass vital signs, drainage systems, dressings, and laboratory results.
- Communicates relevant information to the Registered Nurse or Physician regarding performed activities, patient observations, and any changes in patient condition.
- Ensures the accurate maintenance of patient medical records, treating all patient information as confidential.
- Collects and documents data as instructed by the Registered Nurse or Physician, which may involve the use of specialized equipment such as glucometers and pulse oximeters. Familiarizes patients and families with room and unit procedures.
- Administers and accurately records medication administration in accordance with established policies.
Supervisory/Management Duties
This position does not involve management responsibilities and will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Essential Qualifications
Completion of a Practical Nursing program recognized by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing.
A minimum of one year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Licensure/Registrations/Certifications Required
Must hold a valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in South Carolina.
Alternative Qualifications
In lieu of one year of LPN experience, successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or a comparable residency program from another institution will be accepted.
In lieu of completion of a Practical Nursing program, program equivalency recognized by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing will be accepted.
In lieu of one year of LPN experience, candidates enrolled in an accredited LPN to RN transition program will be considered.
