Structural Safety Inspector

Position Summary
The Building Inspector is tasked with performing thorough inspections of both commercial and residential structures to ensure adherence to established building codes, regulations, and ordinances. This position requires evaluating architectural plans, offering guidance to the public, and resolving construction-related concerns.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent attendance and be present at the workplace.
- Be available for after-hours duties as needed.
- Participate in emergency response activities when required.
- Conduct inspections of buildings at various stages of construction and renovation.
- Assess plans for compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Address public complaints and issue violation notices as necessary.
- Effectively communicate building standards and restrictions to stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and files.
- Respond to emergencies resulting from natural disasters.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent certification.
- 3-5 years of pertinent work experience in the field.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and drug screenings.
- Possession of a valid Class 'C' Driver's License.
- Completion of Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within three months of hire.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
- Must achieve Building Inspector Certification within one year of employment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of building codes, statutes, and zoning regulations.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Capability to interpret architectural plans and specifications.
- Professional enforcement of regulations.
- Ability to foster positive working relationships.
Work Environment
- Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physical agility and strength are required.
- Ability to move and lift objects weighing up to 60lbs.
