Position Overview

Department:
Radiation Oncology

Key Responsibilities:
- Acceptance and commissioning of radiation therapy machinery, software, and equipment.
- Ongoing quality assurance and dosimetry calibration for various devices, including external beam radiation, brachytherapy, CT simulators, and Treatment Planning Systems.
- External beam treatment planning utilizing advanced techniques such as 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and SRS with the Varian treatment planning system.
- HDR Brachytherapy planning and execution.
- Provide physics support for SBRT, SRS, HDR, and 4DCT procedures.
- Conduct and assess patient-related dosimetric measurements.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Actively engage in quality assurance initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with RTT and dosimetry personnel for setup and delivery guidance.
- Maintain close communication with SMG and IT teams.
- Work with Varian for Truebeam maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Assist healthcare professionals in balancing the beneficial and harmful effects of radiation.
- Participate in software and hardware evaluations and procurement.
- Enhance electronic and paper documentation for special procedures.
- Engage in the periodic departmental accreditation process with national oversight bodies (APEX, ACR, or ACRO).
- Collaborate frequently with clinical staff in the SMG Department of Radiation Oncology.
- Safeguard patients and others from excessive radiation exposure.
- Measure and characterize radiation levels.
- Contribute to the development of protocols ensuring safe, timely, and accurate patient treatment planning and delivery.
- Conduct radiation safety training for departmental staff as required.
- Oversee the radiation exposure monitoring program within the department.
- Actively participate in clinical quality assurance efforts within the department.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push and pull objects, considering frequency and weight.
- Physical strength to lift heavy items, considering frequency and weight.
- Mobility to move between locations as needed.
- Agility to maneuver while stationary.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Maintain balance during climbing, bending, or reaching.
- Endurance for tasks such as prolonged standing, bending, or walking.

Qualifications:
- Certification in relevant subfields of medical physics by an accredited national certifying body, with adherence to continuing education requirements.
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in physics, medical physics, radiological physics, medical health physics, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a Radiation Oncology setting.

Preferred Proficiencies:
- Expertise in external beam planning, including 2D, 3D, IMRT, and gating techniques.
- Specialized knowledge in SBRT and/or SRS.
- Experience with high dose rate brachytherapy.
- Familiarity with radionuclide handling and therapy.

Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to commute to satellite offices as necessary.
