Position Overview

  • Supports the daily educational activities and preparation tasks within the Early Childhood Programs, ensuring adherence to established state and national accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Early Childhood Teacher to execute daily educational and activity plans tailored to the students, in alignment with the prescribed lesson plan.
  • Facilitates small group interactive sessions, applying age-appropriate corrective measures and discipline to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Reviews forthcoming lesson plans and prepares all necessary classroom materials to support educational goals and objectives.
  • Complies with the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment.
  • Assists in supervising classroom and playground activities, planning and overseeing meals, snacks, and refreshments for children. Responsible for cleaning and organizing classroom spaces, toys, and equipment. Aids teachers in preparing for classroom activities. Guides children in personal hygiene practices and assists with project material preparation.
  • Engages in various departmental and staff meetings to discuss relevant issues, concerns, and program requirements.
  • Conducts routine sanitization and hygiene care for young children as needed.
  • Maintains accurate student records and participates in regular parent conferences to discuss student progress and developmental assessments. Involves in pre-semester home visits for enrolled students.
  • Prepares newsletters and participates in monthly fire and emergency drills and procedures.
  • Undertakes additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent, or current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification while pursuing an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, along with relevant experience with young children. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Understanding of fundamental educational program principles and practices. Familiarity with proper food handling procedures. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities. Proficient communication skills to maintain classroom control. Ability to establish and sustain effective working relationships with young children, staff, and parents. Competence in working in a dynamic environment subject to noise, frequent exposure to contagious diseases, interruptions, and rapidly changing priorities. Skills in assisting young children to complete activities and maintain focus. Experience working individually with children with special needs. Capable of preparing and completing various projects and activities.

Working Conditions

Typical classroom environment. May require lifting, pushing, and pulling of office equipment and materials. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on the floor, and navigate uneven surfaces, including stairs. Must possess the ability to visually and audibly assess situations to ensure health and safety. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Light maintenance tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, mopping, and trash disposal may be necessary. May require additional hours or days based on circumstances.

Other Requirements

Certification in First Aid/CPR is mandatory.

Salary Range: $26,040 annually
