Assistant Research Professor in Regional Economics

The Regional Research Institute (RRI) is inviting applications for the role of **Assistant Research Professor** (ARP) with an 11-month annual contract. The ARP will collaborate closely with the RRI Director to advance regional economic studies on diverse subjects pertinent to the mission of West Virginia University as a land grant institution. The successful candidate will engage in economic and statistical evaluations utilizing various data sources, as well as in crafting manuscripts and presentations aimed at disseminating findings to both scholarly and public audiences. Additionally, the ARP will mentor graduate and undergraduate students and initiate new research endeavors while seeking external funding opportunities. This position offers avenues for collaboration with scholars at WVU and internationally, participation in conferences, and networking opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop research themes and execute related projects.
- Perform economic and statistical evaluations using statistical software and diverse data sources, including econometric and economic impact assessments.
- Lead the drafting of proposals for external funding.
- Contribute actively to the RRI research team.
- Oversee the work of undergraduate and graduate students
- Provide guidance and technical support to students.
- Represent the RRI in various meetings.
- Communicate research outcomes to both academic and public audiences
- Present findings at regional, national, and/or international conferences.
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
- Create written materials and deliver presentations for public audiences.
Education:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctorate in regional economics or a closely related discipline, or be ABD with the expectation of completing their Ph.D. within a specified timeframe.
Experience:
- Demonstrated research experience in regional economics or regional science.
- Proficiency in STATA or R statistical software and advanced econometric analysis.
- Preferred experience with ArcGIS.
- Preferred experience in conducting economic impact assessments.
- Educational qualifications as mentioned above.
