CableCom is seeking dedicated Underground Utilities Technicians to become part of our dynamic workforce. The primary responsibilities will encompass various labor tasks associated with telecommunications infrastructure development as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor. Candidates should be prepared to work in diverse temperatures, climates, and weather conditions. We provide competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Compensation Range:
$20 - $24 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Excavate using hand tools such as shovels, picks, and digging bars to uncover utilities, access underground vaults and pedestals, and create trenches.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of equipment and materials necessary for daily tasks, establish worksite traffic and safety measures, and ensure the work area is properly secured.
- Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
- Navigate in and out of various equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.).
- Operate or work near heavy machinery and equipment.
- Work in congested or isolated locations.
- Maintain visual and audible communication with fellow crew members and all moving or stationary individuals/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination.
- Execute general construction tasks under the guidance of the Foreman/Supervisor.
- Uphold safe working practices and conditions in accordance with all regulations, procedures, and policies.

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
Ability to pass a DOT physical examination, resulting in a valid medical card is required.
Basic knowledge of and capability to operate various types of utility vehicles and equipment safely.
Familiarity with hand tools and equipment operation in a safe manner.
Effective communication skills with customers and colleagues are essential.
Regular and punctual attendance is a critical function of this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in the utility construction sector.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be capable of performing the aforementioned tasks for at least 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Overtime, after-hours, weekend work, or on-call duties may be required.
- Duties in this role will necessitate standing, crouching, sitting, bending, using hands and fingers for handling or feeling, as well as reaching with hands and arms to both high and low spaces.
- The employee will be engaged in standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding, or stooping during shifts.
- Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and a hard hat.
- Capacity to work in adverse weather conditions, which may include extreme heat and cold, as well as inclement weather such as wind, rain, snow, sleet, and dust, along with challenging driving conditions like wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
- Employees in this classification may be exposed to dust, fumes, or other airborne pathogens.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as necessary, with or without assistance.
