Supplemental Education Instructor

The TRIO Upward Bound program is in search of dedicated educators to lead supplemental courses aimed at high school students preparing for college. We are currently seeking instructors for two specific courses:
- English Composition for 10th Grade Students: This course is scheduled for Thursdays, requiring instructors to be available from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM throughout the academic year, along with designated office hours.
- ACT Preparation & Career Exploration for 11th Grade Students: This course takes place on Tuesdays, with similar time commitments as the English Composition course.
As an English and ACT Prep or Career Exploration Instructor, your primary duties will include:
- Developing and refining curriculum for high school level English Composition and/or ACT Prep & Career Exploration courses.
- Creating weekly lesson plans and delivering instruction in a classroom setting once a week during the academic year.
- Tracking attendance, documenting student performance, and conducting evaluations as mandated by the TRIO Upward Bound program.
- Assessing student learning outcomes and communicating academic concerns to professional staff.
- Contributing to the program's mission by participating in additional events.
- Overseeing one undergraduate teaching assistant.
- Participating in staff training and occasional meetings.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in direct classroom instruction.
- Experience working with diverse and multicultural high school students.
- Classroom management and teaching experience.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Availability for the full academic year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in delivering ACT test preparation.
- Experience in teaching English, including essay writing and grammar.
- Experience with English Language Learners (ELL).
- Experience working with low-income students or first-generation college students.
- Experience in curriculum development and evaluation.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Flexibility to undertake additional tasks to support program goals.
- Priority consideration for candidates with backgrounds similar to the TRIO Upward Bound student population.
The TRIO Upward Bound program is a federally funded initiative designed to provide educational opportunities for high school students from low-income families. The program aims to assist students in developing the skills necessary for success in postsecondary education through long-term support and engagement with students, families, and communities.
