The City of Jacksonville is seeking a dedicated Vehicle Safety Compliance Officer to join our Fleet Management Division. This role is essential for ensuring that vehicles-for-hire, including school buses and taxis, adhere to state and local safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of motor vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Inform vehicle operators about inspection results, detailing any deficiencies and the necessary steps for rectification.
  • Manage inspection fees and maintain accurate records of transactions and inspection stickers.
  • Operate and maintain specialized motor vehicle testing equipment and tools.
  • Perform field inspections and road tests on larger vehicles, ensuring operational safety.
  • Provide technical guidance to vehicle-for-hire companies regarding compliance with safety specifications.
  • Maintain the inspection station and ensure a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • Two years of relevant education or experience in vehicle inspection or repair.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Driver's License, with the ability to secure a P Endorsement within six months.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and maintain detailed records.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operation and safety laws.
